Testimony of the Ancients

By Adok/Hugi

Testimony of the Ancients was a diskmag made by the Dutch group Circle of Tyrants. It was mostly in the English language except a few Dutch articles. Only one issue was released. It can be downloaded at scene.org from where it has been leeched about 450 times. The mag can be executed using DOSBox.

Testimony of the Ancients #1

Testimony of the Ancients #1 was released on July 26th, 1996. After the rendered title picture was displayed, the first page of the menu, the graphics of which didn't look too fancy, would appear. There were eight menu pages in total. Their headlines were: Introduction Articles, Story Corner, Scene Related, General Crap, Songs and Poetry, Interview Corner, Phreaking Corner, and AD&D Corner.

The magazine was a bit fantasy-styled in general. Already the very first article in the Introduction Articles corner, "Pact of The Circle of Tyrantz", was a short story about a god, a dragon and a wizard who had names the members of the Circle of Tyrants

group used as their handles. The Story Corner was pretty big, and the Scene Related corner was very small: It primarily consisted of two articles about group wars and a (Dutch) scene groupmember list. In the General Crap section The Watcher of TUHB wrote about a video mode with the resolution of 640x400 pixels and 256 colours. Moreover, there were some articles about Windows 95 in this section. The Songs and Poetry section was of moderate size. The Interview Corner featured interviews with Dark of Metabolic, Vertigo (in Dutch) and Marduk Kurios of Zodsoft. The Phreaking Corner was almost only in Dutch, except one article ("How to steal a bike"). Finally, there was the AD&D Corner, which dealt with role-playing. The articles were mostly about some non-playable characters and dragon gods.

Overall, this magazine didn't manage to catch my interest, but maybe it could be cool for people who are into RPG.
